Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka Shakar, one of the American and British sitar artist. She was awarded the British House of Commons' Shield in the year of her youngest and the first female to receive it. Alongside nine Grammy nominations, she was also the first musician of Indian origin to be a presenter and performer at the award ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is one of India's most promising stars on the sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's pupil and is also his daughter of Ravi Shankar. She was born in London in 1982. In the first few years of her life she was split her time between London New Delhi. When she was 13, she gave her first performance in New Delhi. After that, she moved to Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha's career as a musician and performer is quite impressive, in spite of her age. She often joins her father during performances, something she's been doing for a number of years. Her debut solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. Her Grammy-nominated Live At Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. As she's appeared on every major stage in across the globe, she's stage career has been expansive. Anoushka Shankar's work isn't restricted to just the music industry. She also published Bapi, the Heart of My Life, in the year 2002. It is a biographical work that is a tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. She also acted on the film "Dance Like a Man" in 2003. The role she played was that of an Bharat natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar's career continues to unfold and we are likely to see a variety of things from her in the years to follow. Anoushka was born in England, but spent most of her childhood between London in the UK and Delhi. After that, she relocated to California and went to high school there. When she was nine years old, she started studying music with her father, who made her debut on the sitar 4 years later, at the celebration of his 75th birthday in Delhi. The father of Anoushka travelled the globe with her, and she was able to gain many new opportunities. As she was at her teens, Anoushka performed at Carnegie Hall during Peter Gabriel's WOMAD music festival. In the end, The House of Commons Shield was awarded an award by the British Parliament for being the top Asian Arts musician. She is the only woman and youngest recipient of this distinction.
